Marielle’s Murder Case: Ronnie Lessa Identify Accused as Highly Dangerous

Ronnie Lessa, an ex-police officer and confessed executory of the murders of Councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, stated in a video-linked testimony in the criminal case on Tuesday (27th) that the defendants are highly dangerous individuals. The case, currently open by the Supreme Court (STF), is set to determine the fate of those being prosecuted, including the famous Brazão brothers accused of ordering the deadly attacks.

Lessa, who is currently serving time in the Tremembé Prison, São Paulo, provided his testimony remotely to the assisting Judge of Minister Alexandre de Moraes’ cabinet. His witness statement was invoked by the Prosecution, led by the Public Prosecution Service (PGR). Among the defendants are Domingos Brazão, and his brother Chiquinho Brazão, currently Federal Deputy; the former head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro Rivaldo Barbosa, and major of the Military Police Ronald Paulo de Alves Pereira. All the defendants, indicted for homicide and criminal organization, are presently in custody.

Throughout his testimony, Lessa revealed chilling details, suggesting that Marielle was perceived as an obstacle in the illicit land division business in the West Zone in Rio de Janeiro. He asserted that the defendants remarked that having the police under their control would scramble Marielle’s efforts against illegal housing complexes. He pointed out their strong connection with Rivaldo Barbosa, indicating his involvement in planning the murder and hampering the probe.

In his delation testimony, Lessa also expressed his regret for his involvement in the murders, admitting it was out of greed. He commented on the promised favors that lured him into accepting the deadly task, voicing his remorse and acceptance of the consequences of his actions. The testimony was adjourned at around 19:10 and will be resumed the following day. Approximately 70 witnesses are expected to testify in the case, with the defendants’ statements anticipated at the process’s conclusion.
