Dark clouds have descended upon the families of the victims of the Voepass flight 2283 accident, as the Instituto Médico Legal (IML) in São Paulo has confirmed the identification of 60 of the 62 passengers that were on board when the aircraft catastrophically crashed in Vinhedo recently. The ill-fated flight, departing with warm goodbyes and hopes of safe arrivals, ended in a horrifying tragedy, not sparing a single life.
The daunting task of identification has been conducted at the Central Unit of IML in Pinheiros, São Paulo. As of this reporting, they have successfully identified 60 bodies, half of which (30 bodies) have already been handed over to bereaved families who have endured an agonizing wait. To expedite the process, the IML has mobilized over 40 medical professionals and members of forensic odontology, anthropology, and radiology teams. They have been able to carry out these operations with the assistance of the Ricardo Gumbleton Daunt Identification Institute.
Parallel to this, a criminal investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident has been instigated by the São Paulo Civil Police, specifically the Vinhedo Police Station. A police inquiry is underway, with all proceedings being guarded under judicial confidentiality. The Federal Police has also initiated a separate investigation into the accident.
Furthering these investigations, the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) is probing into the flight’s final descent with a view to preventing such calamitous incidents in the future. Interestingly, it often takes the form of a parable: a tragic event leads, one would hope, to lessons learned, and thus, to safer times ahead.
In the midst of this heavy-hearted scenario, Voepass has organized an ecumenical act that will take place in São Paulo’s capital. The memorial is set to occur exactly seven days after the fatal incidence. Scheduled to take place at a hotel in the central region of the city, where the victims’ relatives have been set up, the service is intended for family members and authorities only, serving as a quiet space for collective mourning and remembrance.
In light of these heartbreaking updates, one hopes for both the smooth process of the ongoing investigations and the eventual healing of those left behind by the victims of this tragic aircraft accident.
